Hooray, another project!

This one is post-AdeptiCon, but I may as well start talking about it now.  No, it's not painting my Reaper Bones (about 250 figs), or Relic Knights (not quite as many).  Those are coming over the next few months, but no, my post-AdeptiCon project is likely going to be this:

Lost Hemisphere's  Most Epic Extreme Unloved Models Challenge 2013

In a nutshell, here is the deal.  You pick a warlock or warcaster from your faction - one which is considered sub-par, which gets no lovin'.  Paint it up, build an army with it, and try to bat at least .500 with it over the course of the year.

That's the level 1 challenge.  If you want to make it harder, you can get the level 2 - where the LH crew picks the war[X] for you, from whatever faction you list.  If that's still not a challenge, there is the level 3 version - where the LH crew picks a war[X] for you, and then you have to use their tier list.

I decided that I might as well go all-in, and ask for level 3.  Of course, as the army altaholic, I told them that they could choose any faction, and I would give it a go.  Maybe that's a bit beyond level 3, perhaps level π or something.

Yes, I am crazy.  It's not like it's a big secret or anything.  I'm thinking, however, that I need to combine this with another challenge, a regional one that popped up on the Michigan WM facebook group:
By the end of 2013.
If you play three games at 75 points.
Three games at 100 points.
One game at 150 standard Warmachine and hordes.
1 game of unbound at any level.
At the end of the year.
The person who put up this challenge is actually putting up some prizes for it too.  But that's not the important part - it's playing larger, different, games - actually using more of your collection at once.

Back to painting

So, the demo is done, the table got built, and AdeptiCon is only 50 days away.  (I think it is 51 and some odd-hours, but I'm truncating here.)  And I still have a lot of painting to do.  From a pure numbers stand-point, I am far behind.  I have only one unit and a couple of jacks ready for my Warmachine list possiblities, and only one minion done for Malifaux.

But at the moment, I remain optimistic, since I have multiple Maifaux and Warmachine models that are actually getting fairly close to being done.  Enough, in fact, that by this time next week, I might jump from having only 14 models done between the two systems to having more than 35 done, with more getting close to the finish.

On the collecting front, I picked up Zerkova over the weekend, which brings the Who's the Boss list a little closer to completion, and the Covenant.

At some point, I will get around to painting the book - and, having seen some kewl ones floating around, I want to paint mine with a firm tongue in cheek as well.  I want something that inspires loathing and not a little fear - perhaps something like this:

Demo board done (for now)

I want to build another, better, bridge.  This one was borrowed from the box of stuff that has been waiting for me to build the benchwork for a new train layout.  But other than that, I am reasonably happy with this, though I probably would have done the water a bit differently.

Now, back to painting full-time.

Demo table update.

No pics of any figs lately, because they have not progressed in some huge way in the last week.  The Kraken is not yet assembled, and I haven't worked on the jacks in some time.  But, the demo table is progressing, and I have pics to prove it.

I need to make a couple more trees, finish up the snow, seal the board edges, and pour the water.  All before Saturday.  Plenty of time, actually.  I hope to have almost everything other than the water done by tomorrow night, and the water then can be poured on Wednesday.

Frustration!

I'd like to take an updated pic of the demo board.  I would like to, but I can't, because so far, we have had something like 6 momentary power outages tonight.  With my luck, I would get down to the basement, try to take the pic, the power would go out, and I would trip over it and destroy it, just as the power came back.

No painting tonight either, for the obvious reasons.

Long time, no post (again).

It's been a rough month.  Sick kids, Scouts, snow days - all sorts of pesky real life interruptions that interfere with gaming.  I tell you, this Real Life MMORPG needs some tweaks.  The quests are weak, the rewards often incomprehensible (or worthless when you try to sell them), and the mods (who apparently are called "police") mete out pretty harsh penalties if you try to camp in a likely area.

Anyway - not much has actually gotten finished in the last two weeks.  That's the bad news.  The good news is that a lot of things have been worked on.  The bile thralls are coming along nicely, the kraken is here and at least partially assembled, the rest of the revenant stuff should be assembled before the weekend is through.

My demo board has largely languished, which is not good, since the demos are a week from today.  I would be working on them right now, except that the basement needs to air out, since I took a heat gun to the foam to give it some texturing.  Good idea, and I had a mask, but I still need to give my space time to clear out.

We had six players today at L&J as well.  Good to see that the community is finally getting some traction.

Lastly - since the beginning of the month, I have acquired eSkarre, Venethrax, pGoreshade, Mortenebra, 3Gaspy, and Scaverous.  That will almost wrap up the Cryx casters.  I should be getting a Rask in the next few days as well.

Who's the Boss progress report

So, last month, I said that one of my 2013 goals was to have one of every warcaster/warlock in the game, so that I can run a "Who's the Boss" style event on my own.  (One of each does not mean one of each sculpt.  I don't need more than one version of pMadrak, for example.  I may have the variant sculpts, but it's not a requirement.)

Anyway, thanks to a conversation on Facebook last night, I decided to actually take inventory of what I have, so that I can see what I still need to get.  After an hour and some of going through my collection, here is what I think I still need to pick up this year:

Cygnar
eCaine
Constance Blaize
eHaley
3Nemo

eStryker

Cryx
eGaspy
3Gaspy
pGoreshade
Mortenebra

3Lylyth
eVayl

Trollbloods
Borka
Calandra
eGrim
eGrissel

Skorne
eMakeda
3Makeda
Dominar

Minions
Rask
Midas

So, I'm more than halfway there already.  Now, of what I have, I think at least five of them are unassembled, but that is something easily fixed. And those are mostly ones that I have picked up this year.  I am also hoping to get my collection of figs inventoried, sorted, and properly stowed by the end of the year, which means (as a matter of course) that everything will get assembled, and anything that needs replacement parts will get fixed.

No painting today

Ran a Steamroller tourney today.  Took stuff along to assemble and paint, but did not get to it - spent some time reorganizing minis and putting them away properly.  I got a new KR Multicase, and it took a while to fill it.

Plus, it was fun walking around and watching the games.  I have to get the pics off the camera, but for the first tourney at the store, 8 players was a decent turnout.  And, most importantly, everyone seemed to have fun.  Next one probably will not be at that location until March, but another will be coming.

Malifaux Rail Crew basing test, and a WIP Helljack

Quick post to prove that I am working, albeit slowly, on some of the stuff I need for Adepticon.  I'll post pics of some other stuff sometime this weekend - I have a Steamroller tourney tomorrow, so I have to get that stuff ready tonight, and then I am not sure how much painting time I will get tomorrow.  Anyway. . . .

First up, a metal gamin for Malifaux.  This was a quick color and base test, just to see if I liked it.  I think it will work.

Next, we have a WIP of a Helljack.  I like the way this is going.  It's a little on the time-intensive side, but not too bad, and I plan on doing most of my Helljacks in this manner, I think.

Obviously, I have only done the upper carapace.  The necrotite glow area is barely started, and I need to work more on the rest of the chassis, but you can get the general idea of how the jack is going to look.  I want to have him done by next weekend, so that I can move on to the rest of the jacks.
