End of month totals

Pathetic.

OKay, my official, final, and kind of pathetic total for the month is:

Dire Troll Mauler (9 pts)
Slag Troll (6 pts)
Winter Troll (5 pts)

But - if you look at the pics of the group at the beginning of the month (Pics 1,2,3), and those at the end of the month (Pics 1,2,3,4), there is a fair amount of work done. I'm not pleased - I had hoped to at least hit 50, but losing power for half the weekend did not help. Otherwise, I would have almost certainly had a bouncer, an axer, a swamp, the other mauler, and possibly an impaler done. Oh well.

Will I continue with the trolls? Nah, my goals for June are:

Khador battlebox (primed)
Finish Cryx battlebox
Assemble and prime Cygnar MK II battlebox

I'll probably try to finish up some of the trolls (the mauler and the bouncer, most likely), and I have a new scheme for my Retribution that I want to try out on a fig, so I might get to those as well.

Well, that was fun

As the Impossible Dream wraps up again, I have a final tally:

Dire Troll Mauler
Winter Troll

That's it. I might finish something tonight, and even though I knew I wasn't going to hit 100 points, I am still a little disappointed. Of course, losing power from Sunday afternoon through today did not help. Especially considering that all my painting stuff is in the basement. The windowless side of the basement. The pitch black, almost like a cave side of the basement.

I did get a pic of the DTM, but I need to get it off the camera.

Still, all things considered - I did get a lot done, even if I did not get much finished. Almost all of my trolls are assembled and primed, and most have base colors on at least part of them. It could have gone a lot better, but it could have gone a lot worse.

This next week, I plan on assembling some things - there is a FLGS to my west where people might start getting together to play, so it's time to make sure I have some battleboxes ready to go. Maybe I'll work on the Khador box tonight, and see what I can get done.

No gaming last night

So, normally on Thursdays, I get to go play. But, work has been a little stressful for DW lately, so I took the night off from gaming and we went to go see the latest installment of the Pirates franchise. While waiting for it to start, I remembered that somewhere I have a 25mm ruleset for pirates. Don't have any figs for it, that I recall, but that could easily be remedied. In fact, Dixon makes some nice 25mm pirates. . . .time to start looking for some.

(And that, boys and girls, is pretty much how I pick up a new army or game. Distracted by bright and shiny things on the screen, and *poof*. Money flows out, lead flows in, and my basement bomb shelter gets a little bigger.)

No pics tonight

No pics tonight, but I did get a good solid hour of painting in, and a short period of painting earlier in the day. Hope to get some pics up tomorrow, to at least show some proof of progress.

On a related note - I think I found my project for next month. I am about 75% sure that I should paint up a couple of battleboxes, and start running unofficial demos at a store about 30 minutes to the west. Right now, I travel about an hour to the northeast every week or so to game - the other store is closer, but would charge a table fee until there is a decent fan base.

Sorry for the slight delay . . .

Long story short, I did no painting from Thursday last week until (hopefully) sometime today. Long drive on Friday, race on Saturday, long drive Sunday, and a science fair yesterday. I hope to get some painting in today, at long last.

No pics tonight

I didn't feel like taking pics tonight, but I did get a couple hours of painting in. If I can get a couple of hours tomorrow night, I will definitely take some pics. No, I don't think anything new will be done, but a lot of figs will show substantial improvement. I didn't assemble anything today, so the scattergunners are still undone. As long as I have them ready to prime before the weekend, I will be happy.

An update of sorts

I put some more pics up here, but nothing else has been finished. It's a little depressing, when put up against some of the phenomenal work in this thread, but more stuff will get done before the end of the month, and, if nothing else, only a couple of my trolls are still unassembled or bare metal. (And those will be assembled and primed before the end of the month, no matter what else gets done.)

The new pics are Trolls5 through Trolls10.

Progress (of sorts)

I need to take pics, but I'll wait until tomorrow when the basement has more light. Did some skin tone tests on the trollkin, finally got one that I actually kind of like. Skin tones have begun on some of the fennblades and some of the stone scribes. Scattergunners are being assembled, albeit slowly. Skin tones are down on the axer, partially down on an impaler and the bouncer, plus one of the dire troll maulers. Burrowers have skin done on all except the leader, and I have begun work on the clothes and weapons. Some skin work on the swamp troll, and the slag troll is fixed and getting close to being done.

Update

Got nothing substantial done on Thursday or yesterday. Hoping to get in some painting time today, have plenty of time blocked off already tomorrow. If nothing else, I will have gotten a lot of stuff that had been sitting in boxes at least cleaned up, assembled and primed, but I really want to get more stuff done.

Pics (finally)

I still need to do a couple (very minor) touch ups on the bases, and then seal them, but they are done. Total point count for the month so far - 5.

Monday, May 9, 2011

I did pretty much nothing yesterday. I think I started the fennblades and put base color on one of the maulers, but that was it. I hope to get a little painting done sometime this afternoon, and then an hour or so later tonight. I won't get anything done today, but with a little luck and some time, I can get a couple of beasts close enough that I will finish them tomorrow or Wed, and move some other stuff along nicely.

(I really should take some current pics though. I just wanted to be able to show some progress when I did so.)

I also still have about half the magnets left, although it's mainly because I can't decide which I want to magnetize for transport next - Cryx, Cygnar or Menoth. Technically, all three are playable, although I would need a MK II deck for my Cygnar or Menoth. I think the Cryx is most practical, but it's not the only consideration. I think I could magnetize all the Menoth I have, and most of the Cygnar (or vice versa), or do all the Cryx and have about 10-15 magnets left for small or medium-based models. I might just start pulling models at random, and do it that way.

Hooray for magnets!

I glue magnets to the bases of my figs for transport purposes (it's amazing how many you can fit into one steel toolbox, really), but have been out of them for some time. Naturally, the fact that I was out of magnets kept from me acquiring new models for my collection.

Okay, it didn't. And pretty much anyone who knows me would know that to be true. But yesterday I broke down and ordered enough magnets for 28 more large warmahordes bases, and 160 or so small and medium bases. By Sunday night, most, if not all, of them will be gone, glued to the bases of figures acquired since the beginning of the year.

Pics

I took these the other day, and finally got them off the camera. Yes, the quality of the pics is bad all around, but they give a general idea. As you can see, the Winter troll had a base skin color down, as does the swamp troll. A couple other figs have bits of paint here and there - nothing that could not have been done between May 1 and when I took these pics. And, you can also see that quite a bit is still bare metal or plastic - I hope to get those taken care of in the next few days.

The winter troll and the slag troll are mostly done - I hope to have them finished by the end of the weekend, and have gotten Mulg and at least one of the dire trolls pretty far along. I want to get the scattergunners and the krielstone figs trimmed, and greenstuff some gaps on the fennblades too. (It may not happen, since we have company this weekend, and I have a marathon Sunday morning, which may make getting back down to the basement a little hard Sunday night.)

No painting on Thursday

Got nothing done yesterday. I suppose it is technically not true, since I got some figs glued to bases, but Thursdays are my chance to play, so I do that instead.

I came back to Warmachine, and tried out my Retribution. I had been playing Hordes exclusively for the past few months (Trolls, Skorne and Minions), and thought I should dust off some Warmachine figs, especially since I picked up a unit each of halberdiers and invictors, as well as the artificer in the last couple of weeks.

I fared. . . . poorly. I wish I could blame the dice, but really, it was my fault. I forgot that a model had thresher (which cost me a unit of battle mages), and misjudged the range for my riflemen. (In my defence, I knew that the range was going to be close, and I probably should have waited until the next turn.) On the plus side, I got to play against the Khador battle engine, and still had a lot of fun. I'll tweak it a little, and maybe try a different Retribution caster next week.

The challenge continues

I need to upload the pics, but I am making progress. The winter troll is almost done, and the slag troll is well on his way. Gunnbjorn needed some fixing, and I need to pin and reassemble Hoarluk (aka Grumpy Gramps). The champions will need reassembly as well.

I might swap out a couple of things, since I will probably be picking up a unit of Sluggers before the month is up. If I do, I may drop out the scattergunners. . . . or one of the beasts. I don't know - I'll burn that plastic bridge when I get to it.

Impossible Dream Challenge

So, last year, Privateer Press announced the Impossible Dream Challenge. The challenge, in a nutshell, was to paint 100 points worth of Warmachine models in the month of November. I chose not to do it, mainly because November is NaNoWriMo, and I try to limit my impossible challenges to one at a time. But, not to worry - Privateer is doing it again, this time with Hordes, and this month.

So, while I have no expectations of actually finishing it (I haven't mentioned it yet, but I am not exactly a quick painter. Glacial is more my speed.), but I plan to use this month to get as much done as possible.

I looked over my models, and here is what I have chosen for the month of impossible dreaming:

Captain Gunnbjorn
Dire Troll Blitzer
Troll Axer
2x Troll Impaler
Winter Troll
Runebearer
pHoarluk
x2 Dire Troll Mauler (1 normal, 1 extreme)
Mulg
Slag Troll
Swamp Troll
Troll Bouncer
Fell Caller
Janissa Stonetide
6 Krielstone bearer & scribes
Stone Scribe Elder
10 Pyg Bushwackers
Thumper Crew
5 Trollkin Champions
10 Trollkin Fennblades
6 Trollkin Scattergunners
10 Pyg Burrowers

Yes, I know that it is well over 100 points. A couple of the models had some base colors on them, but, since others are not assembled or primed, and it is May 4, I'm going to cut myself some slack. Anyway, the challenge is really about getting as much stuff done as possible, not about some random number-crunching exercise.

Inaugural post

I am making this blog mainly to post about my gaming habits. The name comes from the fact that I am an army altaholic - or, I suffer from AADD - army attention deficit disorder. I say this with full and complete confidence, since, right now, in the basement, I have the following armies:

Warmachine/Hordes
  • Trollbloods
  • Skorne
  • Minions
  • Circle
  • Menoth
  • Retribution
  • Cryx
  • Cygnar
Warhammer 40k
  • Tau
  • Space Marines
  • Imperial Guard
  • Orks
Warhammer
  • Orcs & Goblins
  • Dwarves
  • Ogre Kingdoms
  • Skaven
  • Vampire Counts
Flames of War
  • Soviets
  • British (Africa)
  • Germans (Afrikacorps)
For each case, they are playable armies (though rarely "optimized" tourney-winning armies - which is OK, since I lose a lot), but that's not it. I also have forces for LoTR (Rohan, Moria, Minas Tirith, Cirith Ungol), plus 5 armies for DBA (which I have never played), fleets for Uncharted Seas and Firestorm Armada, some vehicles for Warlands, a bunch of 28mm Romans and Celts (for Field of Glory or Warhammer Ancients), a few hundred figs for Reaper's CAV system, and a couple of Warmaster armies.

I know that I have really done no more than list of half of the random piles of unpainted lead and plastic. There is a lot. And then some more. And then I open a random box that has been sealed for years, and say "Oh, look! Clan War figs! Huzzah!"

Needless to say, very little of this is painted. More on that in my next post.

ETA - forgot about Heavy Gear. I have a couple starter armies for that as well. And quite a few figs for Wargods of Aegyptus. And. . . .
